DECC announces grandfathering RO support for Advanced Conversion Technologies (“ACT”)
In today's Annual Energy Statement, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has announced the grandfathering of Renewable Obligation (RO) support for Advanced Conversion Technologies which include Advanced Gasification. The concept of grandfathering under the RO was introduced in 2009 and guarantees a project will receive the same level of ROCs throughout its full lifetime of eligibility for the RO, regardless of future reductions in ROC support levels.
Biossence (East London) Limited receives Preliminary Accreditation as ‘2 ROC’ project
Biossence (East London) Limited ("BEL"), a SPV set up by Biossence Limited for the purpose of developing its first advanced gasification project in Dagenham, London, has today received confirmation from OFGEM that the plant has been granted Preliminary Accreditation as an Advanced Gasification process (as defined under the Renewable Obligation Order (2009)). This confirms that, subject to the satisfaction of certain conditions, BEL will qualify for 2 Renewable Obligation Certificates for every megawatt hour of generation from the biomass fraction of the input waste fuel.

Biossence Limited has today closed a private funding round with a strategic investor for an undisclosed sum. The investment signifies a significant milestone in the development of the Biossence business as it moves towards closing its first UK project, Biossence (East London) Limited in Dagenham, London. This development will be the first 100,000 tonne per annum advanced gasification project to be developed in the UK and will handle processed waste for the neighbouring Shanks facilities at Frog Island and Jenkins Lane.
